Why I love working with Worthing businesses
When I first started my career in recruitment, Worthing was at the heart of it. Most of my clients were based in a triangle between Brighton, Worthing, Chichester and Storrington — and those early days gave me a real grounding in what makes local businesses thrive. I later spent time working in Guildford, supporting clients across Surrey and London, and since launching People Finding Consultancy I’ve recruited as far afield as Sheffield and Worcester.
But recently, something has come full circle. I’ve been working more closely with businesses right here in Worthing — and honestly, it feels like coming home.
The value of being local
There’s something special about being rooted in the same place as your clients. When a Worthing business asks me to support their hiring, I know the streets they’re based on, the landmarks they reference, the communities they serve. That simple familiarity builds trust and makes the whole process more personal.
Recruitment isn’t just about filling vacancies — it’s about understanding people, places and purpose. Being local means I can bring more than just technical expertise: I bring empathy, insight, and the ability to feel like an extension of my client’s team.
Tailored recruitment, the Worthing way
One example I’m particularly proud of was supporting a new Worthing-based children’s home to recruit their very first team. They needed eight people in place before the doors could open. That meant navigating safer recruitment practices, managing start dates without a set opening date, and building the right systems to keep everything safe, secure and fair.
I designed tailored Google forms and spreadsheets, scoped out local offices for interviews, and worked closely with the directors to ensure every step aligned with their values. The result? A brilliant new team of eight, and a relationship of real trust built along the way.
Closer to home, I’ve also supported a local QS firm in hiring an executive assistant. It’s a role you don’t often see advertised, but for years it was my bread and butter. Helping them find the right person reminded me of why I love recruitment — and why working in Worthing has such a unique energy.
Worthing today
When I relocated from Brighton (my home town) to Worthing years ago, it felt like a very different place. Now? Worthing is buzzing. From brilliant restaurants and lively bars to thriving industries and a welcoming business community, there’s a vibrancy here that I’m proud to be part of.
Working locally also changes how I deliver career mentoring. There’s something powerful about sitting down face to face with someone, tuning into their energy and helping them navigate their next steps. Being able to do that here, in the town I now proudly call home, feels right.
Why choose a local recruiter?
Recruitment is a transferable skill — I can (and do) work across sectors, industries and locations. But when I work with Worthing businesses, there’s an extra layer of connection. My in-house, tailored, hand-holding approach means my clients feel like I’m part of their team — not an outsider parachuted in.
And in Worthing, that partnership has a certain buzz. It’s the buzz of being local, being present, and helping the businesses around me grow with care and intention.
